![]() Recognizing the importance of the conservation and enhancement, as appropriate, of sinks and reservoirs of the greenhouse gases referred to in the Convention, on human rights, the right to health, the rights of indigenous peoples, local communities, migrants, children, persons with disabilities and people in vulnerable situations and the right to development, as well as gender equality, empowerment of women and intergenerational equity, This bill was introduced during the first session of the 43rd Parliament. Climate Emergency Action FrameworkClimate emergency action frameworkĤ (1) The Minister must, in consultation with Indigenous peoples and civil society, develop and implement a climate emergency action framework to achieve the objectives of the Convention on Climate Change respecting the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. (2) This Act is to be construed as upholding the rights of Indigenous peoples recognized and affirmed by section 35 of the Constitution Act, 1982, and not as abrogating or derogating from them.PurposePurposeģ The purpose of this Act is to ensure that the Government of Canada takes all measures necessary to ensure that Canada respects its commitment under the Convention on Climate Change to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and that it does so while complying fully with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Now, therefore, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:Short TitleShort titleġ This Act may be cited as the Climate Emergency Action Act.InterpretationDefinitionsĢ (1) The following definitions apply in this Act.
